Great Britain won their first diving gold of the 2022 European Aquatics Championships as Kyle Kothari and Lois Toulson took the continental title in the mixed 10m synchro event.
The pair travelled to Rome seeking to build on their Commonwealth Games silver after finishing as runners-up to Noah Williams and Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix in the same event in Birmingham.
With their compatriots not in the mixed 10m final, Kothari and Toulson had a clear run to the gold medal but found themselves sitting in second behind Ukraine before their final routine.
The British duo saved their best dive for last with a pair of well-executed two-and-a-half back somersaults with one-and-a-half twists in pike, although Toulson hit the water slightly earlier than Kothari.
Nevertheless, that routine was enough to break the 70-barrier and propel GB to the gold medal with a total of 300.78 points, as Ukraine won silver with 298.59.
The bronze medal went to Italy with a total of 290.28, and the gold represented GB's second podium finish in diving at the Europeans after Spendolini-Sirieix, Williams, Grace Reid and James Heatly won bronze in the team event.
GB were also represented by Yasmin Harper in the women's 1m springboard final, and the 22-year-old placed sixth in the competition with 242.20 points, 22.05 behind Italian gold medallist Elena Bertocchi.
