Bolton Wanderers vs. Blackburn Rovers will go ahead

Bolton Wanderers confirm that their North West derby against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday will go ahead as planned.

Bolton Wanderers have confirmed that their North West derby fixture against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon will go ahead as planned.

The Trotters have also revealed that they will remain in the FA Cup, with a date for the quarter-final match away at Tottenham Hotspur yet to be confirmed by the Football Association.

Doubts had been raised as to whether or not the Wanderers squad would be in the right frame of mind to fulfil the fixtures following the cardiac arrest suffered by their teammate Fabrice Muamba on Saturday night.

However, 23-year-old Muamba has made progress since he was admitted to the London Chest Hospital and following conversations with the midfielder's family, manager Owen Coyle has admitted that the players were keen to play.

"We spoke together with the players as a group this morning and I talked with Fabrice's family last night," said Coyle.

"Fabrice's father Marcel and his fiancée Shauna were keen that we fulfil our fixtures. Once the players knew this, there was no doubt in our minds that we would play the matches."

Bolton head into the weekend's match 17th in the Premier League table.
