Sven Bender will be fit to play against Mainz despite suffering a broken nose in midweek against Ajax.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sven Bender has been declared fit to play, despite picking up a broken nose in Wednesday's victory over Ajax.

The 23-year-old suffered his fourth facial injury within the last year when he was hit by the elbow of Eyong Enoh.

He will now wear a protective mask against Mainz 05 on Saturday after being passed fit by club doctors.

Dortmund captain Sebatian Kehl suffered a similar injury a couple of weeks ago and wore a similar mask against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

After the game, manager Jurgen Klopp said: "[Bender's] opposing player was substituted with a bruised elbow. This pretty much says it all.

"Maybe Bender can use Kehl's mask."

Dortmund are fourth in the Bundesliga.
