Tony Cascarino "hated every minute" of Thomas Tuchel's first game as Chelsea boss

Ex-Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino believes that Thomas Tuchel risks being booed by fans if his side continue to play the way they did against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Tony Cascarino has slammed Chelsea's performance in Thomas Tuchel's first game in charge, saying that he "hated every minute of it".

The Blues were held to a goalless draw by Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday evening, 24 hours after Tuchel had officially replaced Frank Lampard.

Chelsea had 78.9% possession and completed 820 passes - the highest tally recorded in both categories in a manager's first Premier League game since records began in 2003-04.

However, they were unable to find a way past Rui Patricio from any of their 14 attempts in a frustrating start for Tuchel, who declared himself pleased with his side's overall display.

Cascarino felt his former club showed no purpose, though, and insists that Chelsea supporters will demand a lot more from their side over time.

"I was surprised by [Tuchel's] comments even before the game started," he told talkSPORT. "He said 'it was probably one of the most difficult selections I've ever had to make'. I was thinking, 'have you not watched a certain amount of videos before you coach your first game?'

"Watch their last 10 games and you might have got a good idea what their best team is! I found it a very strange comment. And the performance? I hated every minute of it! Especially the first half. I could have gone and put the kettle on and made a cup of tea when Chelsea started to move.

"I probably could have got to my tea and started drinking it by the time they got to the 18-yard box. I hated what I saw in the first half because, to me, possession-based football in the Premier League does pose different problems for you when you adopt that style.

"Wolves offered nothing, they had two glorious chances but they offered nothing in the game. I didn't like it. I could be totally wrong here, but if that's the way Chelsea can play then Stamford Bridge... if there were any fans in there they'd be booing!"

Chelsea return to action on Sunday with a home match against Burnley, before travelling to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur four days later.
