Gylfi Sigurdsson says that a brief chat with Andre Villas-Boas persuaded him to move to Tottenham Hotspur.

New Tottenham Hotspur signing Gylfi Siggurdsson has admitted that a quick conversation with new boss Andre Villas-Boas was enough to convince him to move to White Hart Lane.

After looking likely to join former Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool, the Icelandic international completed a move to Spurs on Wednesday.

Villas-Boas was confirmed as the new chief at the North London oufit on Tuesday, and Sigurdsson has conceded that a brief chat with the ex-Chelsea man forced him to opt for a move to Spurs.

"I like him and the ideas he has. He has faith in me and I'm looking forward to working under his leadership," Sigurdsson told Icelandic website mbl.is.

"I enjoyed playing under Brendan and I am grateful for everything he has done for me, but after careful consideration I liked Spurs best. The team has world-class players in their ranks and they play good football, which I like.

"I was impressed with the club's plans for next season and the coming years. There is clearly great ambition at Tottenham and the club intends to do big things. It is a pleasure to see that Gareth Bale has signed a new contract. There are top players in the team and the club is getting a new training ground."

Sigurdsson spent the second half of last season on loan at Swansea from Hoffenheim.
