Jordan Henderson has wished his former England Under-21s teammate Fabrice Muamba a speedy recovery after the Bolton Wanderers player suffered a cardiac arrest.
Play was abandoned during Saturday's FA Cup tie between Bolton and Tottenham Hotspur when Muamba collapsed and received medical attention on the pitch.
"I played with Fab for the Under-21s, he is a really smart lad and great to have around," Henderson said. "He is a leader on the pitch, someone who always puts the team first.
"He was one of the senior lads in the squad last summer so he was definitely somebody I looked up to and respected.
"Fab's really well thought of and well respected in the game. I'm just wishing that he gets better very quick."
Muamba remains in intensive care, where he is showing some small signs of improvement.
