Liverpool's Mohamed Salah touches on his future with an impassioned social media message, saying that "no matter what happens" he will always cherish scoring at Anfield.

Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah has publicly addressed his uncertain contract situation at Anfield following his winner in Saturday's 2-1 Premier League triumph over Brighton & Hove Albion.

It is no secret that the Egypt international is out of contract at the end of the current campaign, but he remains as crucial as ever to the Reds' system and is shining under Arne Slot.

Salah produced one of his trademark goals to complete Liverpool's turnaround against the Seagulls on Saturday, cutting inside and finding the top corner following earlier efforts from Cody Gakpo and Ferdi Kadioglu.

Thanks to the 32-year-old's fine winner - which saw him leapfrog Robbie Fowler into eighth place in the all-time Premier League scorers list - Liverpool have opened up a two-point lead over reigning champions Manchester City at the summit of the Premier League table.

However, there has seemingly been no change to the Egyptian's contract situation at Anfield, and if he has not signed fresh terms before January, he will be free to enter talks with foreign teams in 2025.

Following Saturday's success, Salah took to X - formerly known as Twitter - to share a photo of him celebrating in front of the Anfield faithful, with the inclusion of a caption that will certainly send tongues wagging.

As well as insisting that Liverpool belong at the top of the pile, the attacker affirmed that he would always cherish scoring at Anfield "no matter what happens" at the end of the season.

"Top of the table is where this club belongs. Nothing less. All teams win matches but there's only 1 champion in the end," the former Chelsea and Roma attacker wrote.

"That's what we want. Thank you for your support last night. No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like."

What could Salah mean with his contract comments?

Salah's public message could be interpreted in one of a couple of ways, the first being that the 32-year-old genuinely does not know what will happen at the end of the season and is simply focusing on his football for the time being.

However, with there being no firm reports of talks being held over a new deal, some may view Salah's post as the attacker sending a message to the Liverpool hierarchy to accelerate discussions over his future.

The glass-half-empty crowd may take Salah's heartfelt message to mean that the winger will be heading for the exit door at the end of the season, especially after his bombshell "last season" claim after the win over Manchester United in September.

Salah's admission at Old Trafford is not believed to have been indicative of him wanting to leave Liverpool, though, rather he is simply planning for the possibility that he will no longer be playing for the Reds next season.

Some outlets have claimed that the 32-year-old does want to continue at Liverpool for a little while longer, and sporting director Richard Hughes will no doubt be busy formulating a plan for a possible contract renewal, as will be the case with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk as well.

Salah now has nine goals and seven assists under his belt from just 15 appearances in the 2024-25 season, and clubs from the Saudi Pro League are expected to be keeping a close eye on the situation after Al-Ittihad's failed £150m approach in 2023.
