Man United should sell Rashford and bring in Williams as his replacement

Perfect Rashford replacement: Man United must not miss Williams opportunity

Sports Mole discusses a potential Manchester United move this summer for Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams as a replacement for Marcus Rashford.

Marcus Rashford's future at Manchester United is again being called into question, with Paris Saint-Germain allegedly reigniting their interest in the Red Devils academy product.

There is no doubting the 26-year-old's talent, but he really struggled last season, only managing eight goals and five assists in 43 appearances in all competitions.

Rashford cut a frustrated figure for long spells, meanwhile, and it might be best for both parties to cut ties this summer, especially if PSG place a suitable offer on the table.

Man United would allegedly be willing to accept an offer of around £60m, and his sale would count as pure profit under the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules.

The deal would be a win for all involved - Man United would receive a huge financial boost, PSG would be signing a player capable of being one of the most lethal attackers in world football, and Rashford would be paid handsomely to try his luck in a foreign division.

It makes sense for Man United and Rashford to part this summer, providing that the right opportunity arrives, and there is a ready-made replacement for the Englishman available to purchase.

Man United should move for Williams this summer

Nico Williams has a release clause of around €55m (£47m) in his current contract, making it incredibly difficult for Athletic Bilbao to keep hold of him during the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old was in outstanding form for Athletic last season, scoring eight goals and registering 19 assists in 37 appearances in all competitions, including five goals and 14 assists in 31 La Liga matches.

Williams was also key to his side's Copa del Rey success, managing three goals and five assists in six appearances in the competition, including an assist in the final against Mallorca.

In total, the forward has represented Athletic on 122 occasions in all competitions, scoring 20 goals and contributing 26 assists, while he has been excellent for Spain at Euro 2024.

Williams played an important role in both matches against Croatia and Italy in the group stage, but his standout performance came in the round of 16, when he scored and provided an assist in Spain's 4-1 win over Georgia.

All of his skills have been on display this summer, and he looks capable of developing into one of the best wingers in European football over the next few years.

Barcelona remain in the driving seat

Barcelona are still thought to be at the head of the queue, while Williams is believed to favour a switch to Camp Nou over any other club, but their financial situation makes the deal a difficult one.

Arsenal and Liverpool are being linked with Williams, while Chelsea's Marc Cucurella has revealed that he has spoken with his Spain teammate about a switch to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Man United simply cannot afford to miss this opportunity, though, and Williams fits the brief in terms of the players that the club are looking to target under INEOS.

For €55m (£47m), Williams could be one of the biggest bargains in recent memory, but a deal is unlikely unless Rashford is sold, with Man United having other priorities in the market.

Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Hojlund are all viewed as important players for the club's future, and Williams could potentially be added into the mix this summer.

No decision will be made until after Euro 2024, but Man United should be putting plans in place for the potential move, as the club could seriously regret missing the opportunity.
