Manchester United have been frustrated in their latest effort to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Shinji Kagawa.
The 23-year-old, who has rejected a new contract at Signal Iduna Park, has been courted by the Red Devils after impressing in Germany since his 2010 move from Cerezo Osaka.
It had been reported that the Red Devils had increased their initial offer for the Japan international to £12.8m.
Despite that bid being rejected, The Guardian understands that the Bundesliga club may be willing to do business for around £14.3m.
Kagawa has 30 caps for his country.
