Former Inter Milan and Sunderland winger Ricky Alvarez has joined Sampdoria until the end of the season.
The 27-year-old had been without a club since the end of the 2014-15 campaign, which he spent on loan at Sunderland from San Siro.
The Black Cats opted against making the move permanent at the end of the season, while the nine-time Argentina international was also released by Inter to leave him as a free agent.
He has now returned to Serie A, however, joining up with Sampdoria on a six-month deal.
"Ricky Alvarez is a quality player. He knows how to get past his man and he's excellent technically," Samp manager Vincenzo Montella told the club's official website.
Sampdoria, who currently sit 14th in the Serie A table, take on Genoa in their next game on Tuesday night.
