Tokyo scrap 2020 Olympics logo

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games organisers scrap the logo after claims of plagiarism.

The logo for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games has been scrapped over plagiarism allegations.

Belgian designer Olivier Debie has previously said that the design was similar to one he created for the Theatre De Liege.

Japanese media are reporting that designer Kenjiro Sano admitted to copying online material when questioned by Tokyo 2020's organisers.

"We have reached a conclusion that it would be only appropriate for us to drop the logo and develop a new emblem," Toshio Muto, director general of the Tokyo organising committee, told a news conference.

"At this point, we have decided that the logo cannot gain public support."

In July, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe confirmed that controversial plans for an Olympic stadium would not go ahead.
