Preview: Tottenham Hotspur Ladies vs. Leicester Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Women's Super League clash between Tottenham Hotspur Ladies and Leicester Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Managerless Tottenham Hotspur Ladies will welcome their relegation rivals Leicester Women to Brisbane Road on Wednesday for a crucial Women's Super League encounter.

Spurs, who occupy 10th position, are just two points clear of their opponents, who are currently propping up the WSL table.

Having failed to pick up a point in the WSL since thrashing Brighton & Hove Albion 8-0 on October 30, Tottenham were aiming to end their poor run of form when they travelled to Prenton Park to face Liverpool on Sunday.

Spurs managed to open the scoring through Rosella Ayane, but goals from Emma Koivisto and Missy Bo Kearns gave the Reds a 2-1 half-time lead.

With Tottenham unable to find an equaliser in the second period, they slumped to their ninth consecutive league defeat.

The result proved to be the final straw for the club's hierarchy, who made the decision to relieve Rehanne Skinner from her duties as Tottenham boss.

While Spurs begin the search for a new manager, Skinner's assistant Vicky Jepson will take charge of Wednesday's contest where Tottenham will have the chance to complete a league double over Leicester, after winning the reverse fixture 2-1 in September.

Although Leicester remain in the one and only relegation place, they will be satisfied with their recent form, with all seven of their WSL points arriving in their last five matches.

In their most recent outing, the Foxes held Everton to a goalless draw at the King Power Stadium, which represented the first time that a Leicester league match has finished all square this season.

Willie Kirk will be pleased to see his side keep their third clean sheet in five WSL matches, but his team still have work to do in the final third.

The Foxes have failed to score in nine of their 14 league games this term and with only seven WSL goals to their name, they are currently the lowest scorers in the top flight.

As they turn their focus to Wednesday's fixture, Leicester know that a point would move them above 11th-placed Brighton on goal difference, while a third league victory of the season would help them leapfrog their opponents.

Team News

The hosts are still unable to call upon the services of long-term injury absentees Kyah Simon, Ellie Brazil and Ria Percival.

Jess Naz will also miss out through injury, while Shelina Zadorsky is a doubt after missing the last two games through illness.

After coming off the bench at half time against Liverpool, Eveliina Summanen could be presented with a starting opportunity.

As for the visitors, Ava Baker is away on international duty with the England Under-17 side, while long-term absentees Abbie McManus, Jess Sigsworth and Lachante Paul remain sidelined.

Having missed Leicester's last two matches with an injury issue, Catherine Bott is a doubt for the midweek contest.

Kirk could be tempted to freshen up his side, with Missy Goodwin and Carrie Jones both in contention to start against Tottenham.

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies possible starting lineup:
Korpela; Turner, Bartrip, Harrop, Neville; James, Summanen; Bizet, Iwabuchi, Ayane; England

Leicester Women possible starting lineup:
Leitzig; Eaton-Collins, Howard, Plumptre, Nevin; Tierney, Mace; Whelan, Jones, Cain; Goodwin

We say: Tottenham Hotspur Ladies 1-1 Leicester Women

Both sides will view this game as a relegation six-pointer, and although the two teams will be desperate to claim all three points to help in their respective survival bids, we are expecting a cagey contest to finish all square.
