West Ham United confirm that winger Maxwel Cornet has joined Genoa on loan for the rest of the season after having his temporary spell at Southampton terminated.

West Ham United winger Maxwel Cornet has completed a loan move to Serie A side Genoa.

The 28-year-old spent the first half of this season on loan at Premier League basement club Southampton, but he endured a frustrating spell at St Mary's and featured only four times in all competitions.

As well as making one start and one substitute outing in the Premier League in September last year, Cornet featured twice for the Saints in the third and fourth rounds of the EFL Cup between September and October.

Cornet, who is deemed surplus to requirements at the London Stadium, has had his Southampton loan terminated and is now hoping to reignite his career in Italy after finalising a temporary move to Genoa, who sit 12th in the Serie A table and just four points above the relegation zone.

The Ivory Coast international confirmed his move to Genoa on Instagram, posting an image of himself in their home shirt along with the caption: "New colour, new adventure, we're going to enjoy! FORZA GENOA."

Cornet leaves West Ham temporarily having only made 37 first-team appearances for the club since joining from Burnley in 2022 for a reported £17.5m, scoring just one goal and providing six assists.

The winger's departure comes at a time when the future of fellow winger Luis Guilherme, a £25m summer signing from Palmeiras, is believed to be uncertain amid reported interest from Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal.

West Ham, now managed by Graham Potter, are on the lookout for attacking reinforcements this month and have allegedly tabled a £57m bid for Aston Villa's Jhon Duran, which is expected to be rejected, while they have also made an enquiry for RB Leipzig striker Andre Silva.
