Preview: Wrexham vs. Huddersfield Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Wrexham and Huddersfield Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Wrexham will welcome fellow promotion hopefuls Huddersfield Town in Tuesday's League One clash at the Racecourse Ground.

The Red Dragons are sitting in second spot in the League One table, while the Terriers are five points adrift in sixth position.

Wrexham will be eyeing a third consecutive promotion after winning seven, drawing two and losing two of their 11 league games this season.

Since losing to Stevenage at the start of the month, the Red Dragons have gone on to record three consecutive victories in all competitions, including home wins over Northampton Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-21s in the league and EFL Trophy respectively.

They required just one goal to get the better of Rotherham United in Saturday's clash, with Paul Mullin's first-minute effort proving enough to separate the two teams at the New York Stadium.

After ending a three-game winless away run, Wrexham will now return to the home comforts of the Racecourse Ground, where they are yet to drop a single point this season.

Having won each of their five home league games, the Red Dragons are one of two teams who boast a 100% home record in the EFL this season along with Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers.

Like their hosts, Huddersfield are looking to achieve promotion to the Championship after suffering relegation last season.

The Terriers made a positive start to their promotion bid, winning each of their first three matches of the League One campaign.

However, they subsequently experienced a dip in form, with their next six league games producing one win and five defeats.

Fortunately, the Terriers seem to have turned a corner in recent times, having recorded three consecutive home victories in all competitions, including back-to-back wins over Barnsley in the league and EFL Trophy.

Michael Duff's side backed up those two results with a successful outing against Bristol Rovers, with Matty Pearson, Callum Marshall and Bojan Radulovic all finding the net in a 3-1 victory.

While they have won three home matches on the bounce, the Terriers still have room to improve on their travels, having lost three of their previous four away games, including their last two road trips against Reading and Birmingham City.

Team News

Wrexham's Jack Marriott celebrates after scoring on September 7, 2024© Imago

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has revealed that Jack Marriott will be out for at least "four months" after he suffered a broken leg in training.

Midfielder George Evans is also set for an extended spell on the sidelines after sustaining an ankle injury earlier this month.

Max Cleworth is closing in on a return to full fitness, but it remains to be seen whether he will be ready for Tuesday's fixture.

As for the visitors, they are unable to call upon Joe Hodge, who is set to miss around two months with a groin injury.

Huddersfield are also without goalkeeper Lee Nicholls and attacker Josh Koroma due to their respective injury issues.

Lasse Sorensen will have to be assessed after being forced off in the seventh minute of Saturday's victory.

Wrexham possible starting lineup:
Okonkwo; Barnett, O'Connell, Scarr, O'Connor, McClean; Cannon, Dobson, Lee; Palmer, Mullin

Huddersfield Town possible starting lineup:
Chapman; Pearson, Lees, Lonwijk; Turton, Kane, Kasumu, Wiles, Miller; Radulovic, Marshall

SM words green background

We say: Wrexham 2-1 Huddersfield Town

The two sides are preparing to face off for the first time since Huddersfield recorded a narrow away victory in May 2005.

However, we do not expect Huddersfield to repeat that result because we believe that Wrexham will continue their imperious home form to maintain their 100% record at the Racecourse Ground this season.
