Kate French secures Olympic spot

Britain's women claim team gold on the final day of the Modern Pentathlon European Championships, as Kate French secures an Olympic berth.

Kate French has booked her place at next summer's Olympic Games as Britain's women claimed team gold on the final day of the Modern Pentathlon European Championships.

French missed just one shot at the targets in the final round to seal a top eight finish in the individual event and ensure her place in Rio next summer.

Her compatriots Samantha Murray and Freyja Prentice finished 10th and 13th respectively, with the combined scores of the trio helping Britain to win gold ahead of Italy and Germany.

"It's amazing, I never thought I would be able to do it," French told BBC Sport.

"I thought I was pretty average all day to be honest, but held it together in the run-shoot at the end and now I just have to stay strong next year."

Laura Asadauskaite was the winner of the women's European gold.
