Everton's Darron Gibson pleads guilty to drink-driving hit and run

Everton midfielder Darron Gibson pleads guilty to hitting a cyclist and fleeing the scene while drink-driving.

Everton midfielder Darron Gibson has pleaded guilty to drink-driving following a hit-and-run incident involving a cyclist.

The 27-year-old was charged a fortnight ago after crashing into three cyclists while they were fixing a broken chain on the side of the road.

Gibson steered his black Nissan Skyline GT-R Nismo away from the scene in Bowdon, Cheshire, before driving into a petrol station and colliding with a pump.

At Trafford Magistrates' Court today, the former Manchester United footballer, who was shoeless when he stepped out of his vehicle to fill up the tank, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, driving without due care and attention and failing to stop after an accident had occurred.

Gibson has been banned from driving for 20 months and ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work, according to PA.

The Everton player will also pay £5,895 in fines and costs.
