Reeva Steenkamp's father Barry "very glad" Oscar Pistorius murder trial is over

Reeva Steenkamp's father Barry says that he is "very glad" that Oscar Pistorius's murder trial has come to a conclusion.

The father of Reeva Steenkamp has claimed that he is pleased to see the end of Oscar Pistorius's murder trial after the Paralympian was sentenced to five years in prison.

The 27-year-old was jailed this morning for the culpable homicide [manslaughter] of Steenkamp, whom he shot dead through a toilet door at his home in Pretoria, South Africa in the early hours of Valentine's Day last year.

The double amputee's defence team have claimed that they expect Pistorius to spend 10 months in jail before carrying out the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

After court was adjourned, Barry Steenkamp told reporters that he was "very glad" that the trial was over, while a lawyer for the family said that the jail sentence was "welcome", according to The Telegraph.

Pistorius was cleared of murder after claiming that he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder when he fired the gun.
