Ben Proud smashes the continental record in the men's 50m freestyle as Great Britain win two more gold medals at the European Short Course Championships in Otopeni.

Great Britain took home another pair of gold medals on day three of the European Short Course Championships in Otopeni.

Two days after winning bronze in the women's 4x50m freestyle relay final, Medi Harris clinched her first major individual international title in the women's 200m backstroke with a time of 2:02.45.

The 21-year-old pipped teammate Katie Shanahan to the title, forcing her compatriot to settle for silver with 2:03.22, while French bronze medallist Pauline Mahieu was further back with 2:03.90.

Alongside Harris's title, Ben Proud earned a slice of continental history as he was crowned champion in the men's 50m freestyle, setting a new European record with a time of 20.18 seconds.

The 29-year-old - who also won the gold medal in the event at the 2022 World Championships - was only 0.02 seconds away from breaking the world record, set by the USA's Caeleb Dressel in 2020.

France's Florent Manaudou and Hungary's Szebasztian Szabo placed second and third respectively, while Proud's fellow Brit Lewis Burras finished in sixth place, touching the wall with 21.03 seconds gone.

GB would achieve one more podium finish in the women's 4x50m medley relay, with the team of Anna Hopkin, Imogen Clark, Kathleen Dawson and Keanna MacInnes taking bronze with 1:44.67 behind silver medallists Italy and European champions Sweden.

Elsewhere, Emily Large ended the women's 200m butterfly final in fifth, clocking 2:06.14, while Archie Goodburn was eighth in the men's 100m breaststroke final, finishing in 57.87 seconds.

The Republic of Ireland's Daniel Wiffin won his second gold of the tournament in the men's 1500m freestyle final, having also come up trumps in Tuesday's 400m freestyle competition, while France's Charlotte Bonnet finished atop the podium in the women's 100m individual medley.
