Feliciano Lopez suffers Leonardo Mayer defeat in Madrid

Leonardo Mayer knocks 11th seed Feliciano Lopez out of the Madrid Open with a straight-sets win in the second round.

Leonardo Mayer has edged into the Madrid Open third round by beating 11th seed Feliciano Lopez in straight sets.

Waiting for the Argentine in the last 16 will be fifth seed Milos Raonic following his victory over Juan Monaco.

Lopez failed to covert the only break point that came up during a closely-fought opening set before Mayer took the tie-break 7-3.

Mayer wasted three chances to break the Spaniard in the second, but he managed to recover to close out the match 7-6(3) 7-6(6).
