Emily Godley has won Team England's first weightlifting gold of the 2018 Commonwealth Games with victory in the women's 75kg category.
Godley quickly put herself in front with three successful snatch attempts, the best of which was 96kg to give her a one-kilogram lead over Canada's Marie-Eve Beauchemin-Nadeau.
That proved to be a crucial advantage too as Godley matched Beauchemin-Nadeau's clean and jerk effort of 126kg to take the title with a combined weight of 222kg to the Canadian's 221.
The result means that Godley, who came fifth in the 63kg category in Glasgow four years ago, succeeds Beauchemin-Nadeau as Commonwealth champion, with the Canadian now boasting one gold and two silvers from the past three Games.
Laura Hughes of Wales completed the podium in third place with a combined total of 207kg, while New Zealand's Bailey Rogers narrowly missed out on the medals.
Godley's gold ends England's run of three silvers from the Games so far.
