Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus breaks a club Premier League record previously held by Mesut Ozil in Wednesday's 2-1 win over Aston Villa at the Emirates.

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has already earned a place in the club's history books after scoring in their 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

The 25-year-old has made an electric start to life in North London for the Gunners, who sought to continue their perfect start to the Premier League season against Steven Gerrard's side.

A rampant Arsenal dominated proceedings from the off against the Lions, but not until the 30th minute would the Gunners' efforts be rewarded, as Jesus pounced to slot home after Granit Xhaka's cross was spilled by Emiliano Martinez.

Jesus was a constant threat at the Emirates Stadium but could not add to his tally before being replaced by Eddie Nketiah in the 88th minute, by which point Gabriel Martinelli had cancelled out Douglas Luiz's equaliser direct from a corner.

Nevertheless, the former Manchester City man can now boast a stellar six goal contributions from his first five Premier League games with Arsenal, scoring three times and providing three assists.

In doing so, Jesus has become Arsenal's most prolific player ever from their first five Premier League games for the club, beating the previous record holder in Ozil, who had two goals and three assists to boast from his earliest games.

The 25-year-old's efforts have allowed Arsenal to cement their place at the top of the Premier League table as the only team with a 100% record still intact, and a two-point gap separates them from reigning champions Man City.

Martinelli was quick to sing the praises of his compatriot at the full-time whistle, labelling Jesus a "beast" as Arsenal lead the way in England's top flight.

"[He makes my job] so much easier. That guy is a beast, he's everywhere on the pitch! We are so lucky and happy to have him here," Martinelli told BT Sport.

Arsenal will aim to make it six wins from six when they face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, but Arteta now has a number of injury concerns to work around in the engine room.

Albert Sambi Lokonga and Xhaka paired up in the middle on Wednesday night in the absence of Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey, who are suffering from hamstring and thigh injuries respectively.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Arteta admitted that Elneny would be out for a significant period of time, and the Gunners would also have to make do without Partey for a while.

"That's not good news, we still need him to see our specialist but I'm afraid we're going to lose Mo for a while," Arteta responded when asked about Elneny's injury before elaborating on Partey's condition.

"He's going to be out for a while but we don't know how long that period is going to be. Obviously, it's not the first injury that he's had in that area so it is a recurring injury, so it's one for the doctors to put a timeline on it and see how he goes.

When asked if the pair's injuries could affect plans for transfer deadline day, Arteta responded: "Obviously, it has an impact because Thomas [Partey] is injured and we are a bit short in that position.

"We have Sambi and Granit can play there but we are looking at options in the market. The club has been super supportive to keep improving the squad and the team as we can, and if the right player is available and we can do it, we will try."

Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale will also need to be assessed ahead of the trip to Old Trafford after picking up knocks in the 2-1 win over Aston Villa.
