Mikel Arteta, David Luiz 'not on speaking terms'

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and defender David Luiz are allegedly no longer on speaking terms after a number of issues in recent weeks.

David Luiz is reportedly no longer on speaking terms with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta as the club struggles with issues both on and off the pitch.

Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Burnley was Arsenal's seventh in 12 Premier League matches this season, a record which has left them in 15th position in the standings.

However, according to football.london, Arteta faces a far deeper crisis at the Emirates Stadium with several players said to have lost faith in his plans going forward.

The report claims that the Spaniard and Luiz no longer speak directly with each other, with the relationship partly souring due to Arteta publicly criticising Nicolas Pepe after his dismissal against Leeds United.

Granit Xhaka, who was sent off against the Clarets in similar circumstances on Sunday, is also said to have "mentally clocked out" of Arteta's project.

Luiz has denied the claims with an official statement via his representatives, stating that he holds "a good relationship" with his boss.
