Celta Vigo, Getafe play out goalless draw in La Liga

Neither side can find a breakthrough in the 90 minutes in the La Liga clash between Celta Vigo and Getafe at the Estadio Balaidos.

Celta Vigo missed the chance to move to the top of La Liga after they played out a goalless draw with Getafe at the Estadio Balaidos this evening.

The home side came within inches of taking the lead in the early stages of the game when Iago Aspas fired a left-footed strike at goal, but he saw his effort clatter off the post and bounce clear.

Getafe raided up the other end of the field and Alvaro Vazquez fired a low shot towards the bottom corner, which went inches past the post.

Celta continued to be a threat in the final third when Nolito raided down the left flank and cut back inside on his right foot to curl an effort towards the top corner, but saw his effort saved by Vicente Guaita.

Just before the break, the home side should have taken the lead when Pablo Hernandez latched on to Daniel Wass's free kick into the box, but he could only head just wide of the post.

Gustavo Cabral came close for the hosts in the second half when he managed to raid into the box to head at goal from Nolito's cross, but he was denied by Guaita.

The visitors hit back through an opportunity from Alvaro Medran as he fired a left-footed strike at goal from inside the box, but Sergio Alvarez made the stop in the Celta goal.

In the dying minutes, Celta piled men forward to push for the three points and came close to snatching the win when John Guidetti lined up a strike from the edge of box, but Guaita kept his effort at bay.

The home side remain in second place in the table, while Getafe sit in 11th.
