Schalke target Rafael Benitez as next coach?

Rafael Benitez has emerged as a target for German side Schalke 04, according to a report.

Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez has emerged as a target for Schalke 04, according to a report.

The Spaniard looks certain to leave the Blues at the end of the campaign with Jose Mourinho reportedly ready to take over at Stamford Bridge, and it is the Bundesliga club who are leading the chase to land the former Liverpool boss, reports the Daily Mail.

Schalke's current coach, Jens Keller, is also in charge on an interim basis and the German side want Benitez to take over as their full-time coach next season.

Benitez took charge at the Blues in November and has led to them to the Europa League final after overcoming Swiss outfit Basel on Thursday.

Chelsea travel to Manchester United in the Premier League today.
