Manchester United confirm that their Premier League fixture away against Brentford on Tuesday night has been postponed, following a coronavirus outbreak at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have confirmed that their Premier League fixture away against Brentford on Tuesday night has been postponed, following a coronavirus outbreak at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils announced on Monday that they 'closed down first-team operations' at their Carrington Training Complex after several players and staff recorded positive COVID-19 tests, confirmed with a PCR test.

United have since revealed they requested for their fixture against the Bees to be rearranged before the Premier League Board decided to postpone the match, which will be rescheduled "in due course".

A club statement on Man United's official website read: "Following PCR confirmation of positive LFT Covid-19 tests among the first-team staff and players, the outbreak requires ongoing surveillance.

"A decision was taken to close first-team operations at the Carrington Training Complex for 24 hours to help minimise risk of further infection, and individuals who tested positive are isolating in line with Premier League protocols.

"Given cancellation of training and disruption to the squad, and with the health of players and staff the priority, the club requested the match to be rearranged. The Premier League Board took the decision to postpone based on guidance from medical advisors.

"Manchester United regrets the inconvenience caused to Brentford FC and to the fans of both clubs by Covid-19."

Over the last seven days, 42 Premier League players and staff have tested positive for COVID-19, with Man United, Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion, Norwich City and Tottenham Hotspur all confirming cases of the virus.

As a result, the Premier League have announced that they have reintroduced 'Emergency Measures', which will require all 20 clubs to follow protocols such as more frequent testing, observing social distancing and wearing face coverings indoors.
