Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith has confirmed that reports coming out over wide receiver Julio Jones's injury are "not encouraging", but insists that suggesting his season is over is "premature".
Jones sustained the injury during his side's defeat to the New York Jets, but still played the match through to its entirety and made an excellent one-handed catch to set up a touchdown drive.
"Julio injured his foot last night," Smith told reporters. "He saw our doctors this morning. He is going to have a second opinion tomorrow over in Charlotte, North Carolina.
"The first reports were not encouraging, but we will wait to see what the second opinion comes back as."
The Falcons are 1-4 in their season after week five.
