The Chicago Bears have signed undrafted free agent Jordan Lynch with a view to switching his position from quarterback to running back.
Lynch worked out for the Bears as a quarterback at his pro day but was also given a chance at running back, with general manager Phil Emery spotting potential for a change of position.
The 2013 Heisman Trophy finalist was not selected in this year's Draft but received a call from Bears head coach Marc Trestman on Saturday and snapped up his offer to try the new role.
"I just wanted my shot and my opportunity to be in the NFL, and the Bears were the team. I really respect him calling me. He seems like a coach I want to be around," Lynch told the Chicago Sun-Times.
"Whatever I can do to help a team out, I'm willing to do. I'll run down the field on special teams."
Lynch threw for 2,892 yards and 24 touchdowns during his senior season in college, while also rushing for 1,920 yards and 23 touchdowns.
