Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler will reportedly earn a £13m-per-year contract regardless of his performances, according to an NFL cap manager.
New head coach Marc Trestman called off contract talks with the player once he arrived, but despite this the report claims that Cutler will earn the deal that he wants.
"Jay Cutler is going to eventually get £13m no matter how much he deserves it," ESPN quotes the cap manager as saying.
"I think there will be a team desperate for a quarterback who doesn't like the quarterbacks in the draft. Maybe they think they're close and the GM says Jay Cutler is no different from Joe Flacco, that you can win a championship with him.
"It just takes one of 32 teams to make that judgment, and I think there's a good chance someone will. Cutler can still be pretty darn good."
Cutler, who will be entering his eighth season, threw for 3,033 yards in 2012.
