John Elway: 'Eric Decker can test free-agent market'

John Elway reveals that the Denver Broncos will allow wide receiver Eric Decker to test the market during free agency rather than sign him to a deal themselves.

The Denver Broncos executive vice-president of football operations, John Elway, has revealed that the club will allow wide receiver Eric Decker to test the free-agent market.

The 26-year-old was an integral part of the Broncos' push to the Super Bowl and their record-breaking offense, which accumulated the most points in the history of the NFL.

However, Decker has reportedly asked for number one receiver money and with Demaryius Thomas's contract talks on the horizon next year, the Broncos have made the decision to let him leave.

Elway told reporters: "I think they have to hit the market, the market sets those, especially where you look where we are and what we have coming up. Both Thomases are up next year. And Wes is, too. So all that plays into it.

"We'd love to have Eric back, but he's made he comment he's like to be back. He's got to do what's best for Eric, too, and vice versa. That's why we go through this process."

Decker had 87 receptions for 1,288 yards along with 11 touchdowns last season.
