Wes Welker banned for four games for PED violation

Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker will miss the first four games of the NFL season after violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker has been suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

The 33-year-old was a doubt for the start of the campaign due to a concussion sustained in pre-season, but will now be out of action until week six.

Welker tested positive for amphetamines after taking a drugs test in May during his side's organised team activities, just days after his horse recorded a victory at the Kentucky Derby, where Welker was seen handing out $100 bills.

The receiver will now miss his side's matches against the Indianapolis Colts, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Seattle Seahawks and the Arizona Cardinals.

Welker recorded 73 receptions for 778 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Broncos last season.
