Maurice Jones-Drew has been medically cleared to take part in the Jacksonville Jaguars' training camp.
The running back missed the second half of last season after sustaining a Lisfranc injury, which was operated on in December.
The 28-year-old told reporters: "Now, it's back to football. It's been a long time coming. I'm excited to be out there running and around and playing.
"Whatever they want me to do. Obviously, not playing football for 10 months, I'm a little out of football shape. I feel like after a week or two I'll be where I need to be."
Head coach Gus Bradley added: "We're extremely excited about the progress he has made. It's a good sign."
In six games, Jones-Drew recorded 414 rushing yards and one touchdown in 2012.
