Mike Maccagnan unsure of Dee Milliner future

New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan concedes that cornerback Dee Milliner may not be the same player he was before his Achilles injury.

New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan has admitted that he is unsure what player the club will see when cornerback Dee Milliner recovers from an Achilles injury.

The 23-year-old tore his Achilles tendon in week five of the season against the Denver Broncos and was ruled out for the rest of the 2014 campaign.

Milliner underwent surgery and is currently in rehabilitation procedures to regain his fitness for his side's off-season activities.

However, Maccagnan has conceded that the cornerback might not be the same player he was before the injury, due to the severity of the problems and the demands of his position.

"It's a bit of an unknown," Maccagnan told reporters. "It could have a negative outcome, but it could have a positive outcome. So, to me, it's kind of a wild card. It's not necessarily a negative or a positive.

"If he comes back well from his injury, suddenly you have a good player in him. You have to kind of prepare for the worst-case scenario, but if you do get him back and he plays well, if we go out and address that position and he comes back strongly, it just makes that position stronger.

"I will say this with cornerbacks, you can never have enough good ones. I'd be very happy if we had a surplus at that position."

Milliner was selected in the first round of the 2013 Draft, and has recorded 62 tackles and three interceptions in his two seasons with the Jets.
