Mark Sanchez's New York Jets place under threat?

The New York Jets are reportedly considering releasing Mark Sanchez after signing veteran quarterback Brady Quinn.

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez could reportedly find his place on the roster under threat following the arrival of Brady Quinn.

Sanchez is currently struggling with a shoulder injury that is likely to rule him out of the opening match of the regular season, prompting the Jets to bring Quinn in as cover for Geno Smith.

Sanchez and Smith have been competing for the number one quarterback role for the majority of pre-season, with coach Rex Ryan refusing to confirm who will be named as the starter until at least Wednesday.

However, with concerns over Sanchez's fitness, it is believed that the arrival of Quinn could pave the way for the 26-year-old to be released by the Jets, although it is unclear whether they would be willing to take the significant financial hit that would accompany such a high-profile release.

Jets general manager John Idzik has not ruled out releasing Sanchez, according to ESPN, while he is also said to be considering trading the player.
