Twickenham to host three NFL games from 2016

The NFL announces that it has struck a deal to play three regular-season games at Twickenham over the next three years.

The NFL has announced that it has reached an agreement to play three regular-season games at Twickenham over the next three years.

The deal, which sees games taking place at the home of the England rugby team, will begin in October 2016, with the first fixture to be announced later this year. The agreement will also allow the NFL the chance to stage two further games over the same period.

The NFL recently extended its Wembley Stadium agreement, with a minimum of two games per year to be played there through to 2020, while they also struck a deal with Tottenham Hotspur to play at least two games per year at the Premier League club's new stadium, commencing in 2018.

"We are committed to continuing to grow our sport in the UK and believe that adding Twickenham Stadium to our roster of host venues in London is further evidence of that commitment," NFL executive vice-president of international Mark Waller said in a statement.

"We are very excited to give our fans the opportunity to enjoy NFL action at another world-class venue famous for attracting loyal and passionate fans from across the globe."

The deal means that there will be at least five NFL games held in the UK in 2018.
