Connor Barwin: 'Marcus Smith has improved his strength'

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Connor Barwin believes that teammate Marcus Smith has made a concerted effort to improve his strength in the off-season.

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Connor Barwin believes that teammate Marcus Smith has significantly improved his strength in the off-season.

The Eagles selected Smith in the first round of the 2014 Draft, but the 23-year-old played just 74 snaps for Chip Kelly's men as he struggled to get to grips with life in the NFL.

However, Barwin feels that the linebacker has made a concerted effort in the off-season to get into the best possible shape ahead of his second campaign in the league.

"Physically, he looks different. He gained 15 pounds, he put on a lot of muscle," Barwin told reporters.

"He's one of the stronger guys on our defense now. He took the off-season and did what he needed to do, which was get bigger, stronger. Now we're just excited to see what happens when we put the pads on."

Smith failed to record any statistics in his rookie season in the NFL.
