San Diego Chargers defensive end Corey Liuget has insisted that he did not mean to injure Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning during Sunday's match between the two sides.
Liuget caught Manning with a low hit late in the fourth quarter of the Broncos' 28-20 win yesterday, forcing the veteran quarterback to receive treatment on his ankle before continuing.
Manning will undergo an MRI scan on the injury later today, and Liuget hopes that the problem won't be too severe.
"I was trying to get to him because I knew how critical it could be to us as a defence to get to him," Liuget told The AP.
"I was just working it and trying to be the guy. I'm not sure how I caught him but I hope he is OK. It's not anything that is going to stop him from being Peyton Manning."
The Broncos face the unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs in a crucial AFC West clash on Sunday, a match that Manning is expected to be fit for.
