San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews has admitted that he is delighted to finally be contributing to his side late in the season.
Mathews has struggled with injuries since being drafted 12th overall in 2010 by the club, but this season he has started to shine with five games over 100 rushing yards, including in his side's win over the Denver Broncos.
"Those were tough yards," Mathews told U-T San Diego. "We battled for those yards. It was fun. That's what a running back wants.
"It feels good to be able to keep going. The last few years I've done it here and there. To be able to do it each week, that is what feels good."
The Chargers are in the playoff hunt with a 7-7 record this season.
