San Diego Chargers secure dramatic comeback victory

The San Diego Chargers leave it late to secure a comeback victory over the Kansas City Chiefs as the lead is exchanged four times in an incredible fourth quarter.

Seyi Ajirotutu scored a late touchdown for the San Diego Chargers as they came from behind the beat the Kansas City Chiefs in an incredible game at Arrowhead Stadium.

Both teams struggled to move the ball early on forcing two early punts but the Chargers opened the scoring on their second drive.

Philip Rivers connected on a couple of throws to receiver Keenan Allen and although they could not score the touchdown, Nick Novak fired a 30-yard field goal through the posts.

This brought the Chiefs into life and Smith engineered a drive of his own which culminated in Andy Reid's side taking the lead as the quarterback drilled a pass to receiver Donnie Avery on a deep post for a 32-yard touchdown over the middle of the field.

The home side extended their advantage as Smith put together another long drive to move them into the red zone and this time he handed the ball off to running back Jamaal Charles, who found space to go in for the seven-yard touchdown.

However, just before the break the Chargers reduced the deficit to four points as Rivers extended a play and threw the ball deep into the end zone where he connected with Danny Woodhead, who made an excellent grab for an 11-yard score.

After the break, San Diego took the lead as Rivers moved his side downfield with ease before he handed the ball off to running back Ryan Mathews on the goalline and he powered into the end zone for the one-yard score.

The Chiefs hit back with a lengthy drive on their own and Smith handed off to Charles yet again and he did the business for his side to help them regain the lead with a one-yard run of his own.

Back came the Chargers as Woodhead went in for his second score of the game with a three-yard run but Smith and the Chiefs responded immediately with a strike to tight end Anthony Fasano, giving themselves the lead going into the fourth quarter.

Novak and Ryan Succop exchanged field goals at the start of the quarter but then the Chargers took a decisive lead when Rivers found Ladarius Green on a slant route over the middle of the field and he broke a tackle and ran all the way to the end zone for a 60-yard score.

That strike looked to have won the game for the visitors but the Chiefs had other ideas. They rallied yet again and Smith thought that he had won the game for his side when he found Dwayne Bowe in the end zone on a crossing route with 90 seconds remaining.

However, Rivers was not be denied and won the game for his side when he launched a pass towards the end zone for Seyi Ajirotutu on a go route, and the receiver made the grab for the 26-yard score.
