Jim Tomsula has admitted that it is an "honour" for him to be named as the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
Tomsula was promoted from the defensive line coach to succeed Jim Harbaugh, who left the team following a four-year spell in the Bay Area.
He told reporters: "It's awesome. It's wonderful, but it's also a strong sense of responsibility. I get it. I do. I get the decision. I get everything that goes along with it, too.
"It's an honour. When you get somebody to step up for you like that - step out there. You want to do good for them."
Tomsula was a coach in NFL Europe with the London Monarchs, Scottish Claymores, Berlin Thunder and Rhein Fire before he joined the 49ers in the 2007 season.
