The St Louis Rams have announced that Rob Ryan will not be running their defence for the 2013 NFL season.
It was reported that the NFC West side agreed a deal in principal last week for the former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator to join the side for this year's campaign.
Executive vice president of football operations Kevin Demoff told the team's website: "After extensive conversations regarding defensive philosophy, the Rams and Rob Ryan agreed he was not the right fit for the club's defensive coordinator position.
"The Rams will continue the interview process with the club's other candidates."
The Rams recorded 52 sacks during the 2012 season, the most of any team in the league.
