The Washington Redskins have released defensive end Adam Carriker and punter Sav Rocca.
Carriker joined the team in 2010 but has struggled with injury in recent years, missing the last 14 games of the 2012 season and whole of the 2013 campaign due to a torn quadriceps.
The former first-round Draft pick recorded a career-best 5.5 sacks in the 2011 season, but his injury woes have ensured that he has failed to build on that.
He was understood to be confident of retaining his place on the Redskins' roster despite being out for so long, but his release now saves the team almost $3m (£1.8m) against the salary cap.
Rocca's release saves a further $1.2m (£720,000) after the 40-year-old averaged 42 yards per punt and a career-low 33.8-yard net average last season.
The Redskins also released running backs Jawan Jamison and Davin Meggett as well as tight end Richard Quinn.
