Robert Griffin III has said that he will not jeopardise his career in order to play in the first week of the 2013 NFL season.
The Washington Redskins quarterback, who is recovering from knee ligament surgery, is fronting an ad campaign for Adidas under the slogan "All in for week one".
However, the 23-year-old tweeted: "Feel like I need to say this. Although my goal is to start week one, that doesn't mean I will compromise my career to do so.
"Starting week one will be the result of healing, hard work, dedication and God's anointing. No rush, just determination."
The offensive rookie of the year needed the operation after damaging his anterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligaments during the Redskins' playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks last month.
