Iraq's Paralympic runner Hussein Kadhim has edged closer to claiming a medal for his country after comfortably winning his heat in the men's T13 400m.
Kadhim, who is one of the favourites for Paralympic gold, set a regional record of 50.36s, while his closest competitor Ioannis Protos of Greece qualified with in 50.73s.
The Iraqi athlete was thrilled to cross the finish line and looked as though he had already won the final, which is due to take place at the Olympic Stadium on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Great Britain's hope for the women's 5,000m, Shelly Woods, managed to qualify for the final after finishing third in her heat.
