Olympic gold medallist Tim Brabants looks likely to miss out on next year's London games.
The canoeing champion will not feature for Great Britain at next month's World Championships in Hungary after losing a race-off against Paul Wycherley.
The outcome means that Wycherley is likely to feature for Great Britain at the Olympics.
The 34-year-old, who had previously won two bronze medals at the Sydney Games in 2000, was made an MBE in 2009 after his gold medal-winning display in Beijing.
