Kelly Sotherton makes a switch back to the heptathlon in a bid to appear at next year's Olympic Games.

Kelly Sotherton has opted to make a return to heptathlon in a bid to compete in the Olympic Games in London next year.

The 34-year-old, who claimed heptathlon Olympic bronze in 2004, quit the discipline in 2010 to concentrate on the 400m.

However, the switch proved less than successful for Sotherton, resulting in her failing to qualify for the World Championships and losing her lottery funding.

"I started training four weeks ago for the heptathlon," Sotherton told Sky Sports News.

"It has rejuvenated my feelings for the sport, I am motivated more and I'm enjoying the fact that next summer I could be at the Olympics in the heptathlon."

As well as Olympic bronze, Sotherton also finished third at the World Championships in 2007.
