Nike have announced that they have suspended their contract with Oscar Pistorius, who has been charged with the premeditated murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
The 26-year-old, who shot dead the 29-year-old model by firing four shots through a bathroom door at his home last week, has entered the third day of his bail hearing at Pretoria Magistrates' Court facing a schedule six offence. This is the most serious in South African law, and only grants bail in 'exceptional circumstances'.
While the double amputee awaits a decision on bail, global sports brand Nike have released a statement saying: "Nike has suspended its contract with Oscar Pistorius. We believe Oscar Pistorius should be afforded due process and we will continue to monitor the situation closely."
Meanwhile, the leading detective in the case Hilton Botha has been dropped following claims that he is facing seven charges of attempted murder in relation to an incident in 2009.
