Greg Rutherford withdraws from Great Britain squad

Greg Rutherford says that he will not compete for Great Britain at the European Indoor Championships in Prague, despite being named in the squad earlier this week.

Olympic gold medallist Greg Rutherford has announced his withdrawal from the Great Britain squad that is set to compete at the European Indoor Championships.

Earlier this week he was named in the team for the competition in Prague, which gets underway on March 5.

"While I would have loved to compete at the European Indoor Championships, I have decided to remove myself after a long deliberation," BBC Sport quotes Rutherford as saying.

"With an incredibly important summer coming up where I intend on giving it my all to win the World Championships in Beijing, I've decided to keep my focus purely on the summer season."

Rutherford won the British Indoor Championships in Birmingham on Saturday with a personal-best indoor jump of 8.17m.
