Eilidh Child claims silver for Scotland in women's 400m hurdles

Eilidh Child finishes second in the women's 400m hurdles final at Hampden Park.

Eilidh Child took the silver medal in the women's 400m hurdles final at Hampden Park this evening, as Jamaica's Kaliese Spencer claimed gold by a considerable margin.

In incredibly wet conditions, Child started well and seemed to be leading at the halfway stage, but as the runners came around the final bend, Spencer showed her class to move away from the pack.

Although Child trailed the leader by a few metres, she had opened up a gap between herself and the trailing six runners on the final straight and leapt over the last two hurdles and crossed the line to take the silver medal.
