Dame Kelly Holmes has called on Jessica Ennis to stay focused while the hopes of Great Britain rest on her shoulders.
The 26-year-old begins her Olympics heptathlon campaign at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford this morning, with the 100m hurdles due up first.
"It is Jessica's first Olympic Games. For Beijing she had a broken foot so for her this is a big moment," double-gold medallist Holmes told BBC Sport.
"She has been the face of these Olympics coming through so, of course, that is added pressure and she will want nothing more than to win the gold medal.
"As an athlete with that much profile there is that balance that she wants it for herself but she knows everyone else is expecting from her. That's what she has to try to handle."
Ennis will also compete in the high jump, shot put and 200m throughout the day.
