USA qualify for women's relay final after re-run

USA reach the women's 4 x 100m relay final after being given the chance to re-run their semi-final after a successful appeal.

USA have earned a place in the final of the women's 4 x 100m relay after achieving a qualifying time at the second attempt.

Earlier on Thursday, the quartet of Tianna Bartoletta, Allyson Felix, English Gardner and Morolake Akinosun missed out on a top-three finish after dropping the baton in the first semi-final.

However, after it was adjudged that the baton was knocked out of their hand by a Brazilian athlete, they were given the opportunity to take part in a re-run which would see the four take part in a race on their own.

They were required to beat a time of 42.70s but it was never in doubt as they crossed the line in 41.77s to progress as the fastest qualifiers.
